Purrfect Ways To Celebrate Meow Like A Pirate Day

As you may have noticed, cats have a way of taking over things: couches, beds, boxes … and, of course, our hearts. Fluffy has also commandeered a few holidays. The most recent one that’s gone to the cats? Talk Like A Pirate Day, which is September 19th, is now also known as Meow Like A Pirate Day. While we may be landlocked here in Indiana, that doesn’t mean we can’t get into the spirit of things. A local Anderson, IN vet lists some cute ways to celebrate.

Photo Shoot

Kitties take some super cute pictures, but Fluffy looks extra adorable in a pirate hat. You can also play with different props, such as a Jolly Roger flag, an eye patch, or even a bottle of rum. Just stick with safe props, and don’t leave your feline buddy in clothes for longer than it takes to get that photo.

Meals

A seafarer’s delight is purrfect for dinner. If you want to give your feline friend a special treat, you can offer her some plain, cooked fish, without the skin, bones, or fat. Fluffy can also have some crab or salmon.

Visit The Memorial

If you feel like getting out and enjoying some fall weather, you may want to head to the Pirate Cat Memorial at Monon Trail. There you’ll find a statue of a ginger kitty known as Pirate Cat to the locals, due to his love for roaming and living free.

Ship

Did you know you can get Fluffy a scratcher/hideout that looks like a pirate ship? Fluffy may also enjoy playing with a catnip parrot, or perhaps a shark toy. If you want to entertain your furry little buccaneer without breaking the bank, you can also go the DIY route and make some pirate-themed kitty things yourself. This is also a great way to keep the kids occupied! Look online for ideas and instructions.

Movie Night

Cats love snuggling up with their owners for movie time! There are some great pirate flicks to choose from. The Pirates Of The Caribbean series is still great fun, but there’s also The Goonies, Hook, Cutthroat Island, Pan, The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything, Peter Pan, and Treasure Island, to name just a few. (Rum is optional, of course.)
