Allergies & Dermatology

Is your pet’s itchy skin keeping you both up at night?

There are many different ailments that can affect a companion animal’s skin. Whether it’s a topical problem, like a hot spot or rash, or something more in-depth like an infection, the symptoms can be unpleasant. You don’t want to see your pal suffer like that, and neither do we! That’s why Pendleton Veterinary Clinic offers professional pet allergy and dermatology services as part of our comprehensive system of care. We want to help get your loved one as healthy on the outside as on the inside.

Diagnosing the Problem

The first step toward helping your best friend feel better again is identifying the precise condition he or she is experiencing. Our hospital is outfitted with an in-house laboratory, which allows us to run a number of diagnostic tests quickly and efficiently. We may be able to tell what’s wrong just by examining your pet, or we may need to investigate further. Blood work, skin scrapings and biopsies help us get the answers we need to move forward with a cure.

Some of the dermatological issues we can provide assistance with include:

  • Allergies (food and/or environmental)
  • Infections (acute or chronic)
  • Parasites
  • Dermatitis
  • Hormonal disorders
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Tumors
  • Skin cancer

Developing a Treatment Plan

To determine how best to treat the problem, we will consider a number of unique factors. This allows us to develop a tailor-made approach just for your pet, designed to achieve the best possible results. Depending on the situation, we may recommend something as simple as applying a topical cream. More complex conditions may call for a combination of treatment methods.

Allergies require a little more work to manage. Once we understand what’s causing your pet’s reactions, we will work toward a solution that will eliminate outbreaks as much as possible. Some allergies can be managed through lifestyle changes, such as switching food products. Others may require a longer-term strategy. Our recommendations will be based on your companion’s specific needs.

Signs of a possible skin problem include:

  • Excessive scratching
  • Scabbing or flaking of the skin
  • Hot spots
  • Shedding more than usual
  • Biting, chewing or licking at the affected area
  • Bumps or lumps on or under the skin

If you notice any of these signs or symptoms, it’s time to schedule an appointment. Give the experienced professionals at Pendleton Veterinary Clinic a call. We can help your loved one live a more comfortable life.

We took our Sacha for her check up yesterday and she was so nervous and making a lot of noise. Dr Crabtree and Kyle were so good with her and took the time to talk to us about how our cats are doing. How many Vets do that?? We love our Vet he is the best. 🥰

I was very happy after taking my animals to two other vet's in the last couple of years. We were looking for the best medication to help with my dogs anxiety and Dr. Crabtree and his staff got it right on the first try! The staff went above and beyond to help me get my records from our past vets. Thank you all for a great experience. See you soon!

We had to say goodbye to our almost fifteen year old Shiba Inu recently and I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the care and compassion shown by the staff here. It's a very painful thing to do but they were patient and kind and sweet and helpful through the process and frankly through every visit we made to the office. He wasn't exactly the easiest dog to examine or care for sometimes but they never gave up on him. Love and light to your whole staff! You are appreciated.

If you are ever in need of a veterinarian, look no further than Pendleton Veterinary Clinic. When our Lab-Pit mix, Reba, fell ill a couple weeks ago, we decided to give them a try, as we had heard nothing but positive feedback about their office, and we had been terribly frustrated with several other offices we had previously visited. We will never go anywhere else. Kyle & Dr. Conner were absolutely phenomenal. They actually listened to everything we had to say about our dogs, took time to answer all our questions, were very straight forward and honest with all the information they gave us, and not only loved on our dogs, but didn't get irritated when our dogs wanted to love on them. We never once felt like we were being rushed out so they could get to the next appointment. The fact that they were very affordable was just a side bonus to the care and attention we received. We honestly left feeling like they cared about our pets as much as we did. Over the next several days, we received follow-up calls from the office asking if we had any questions or concerns, Kyle checking to see how the medication was working for Reba (because we told them she tends to have side effects), and Dr. Conner giving us the lab results and asking us to call back in and let them know how Reba was doing. We were absolutely blown away. We've never experienced anything like this when making a visit to the vet's office. We highly recommend Pendleton Veterinary Clinic to anyone in the area who loves their fur-babies!
