Keeping Your Cat Happy

Does your kitty sometimes get that smug look on her face? This is a pretty good sign that your pet is content. What does it take to really please our feline overlords? Here, an Anderson, IN vet offers some advice on keeping Fluffy happy, healthy, and purring.

Toys

Kitties may look cute and innocent, but don’t forget that they are predators by nature. Hunting instincts are deeply ingrained in your furry pal. Offer Fluffy lots of toys to pounce on, so she can let her inner lioness out.

Enrichment

Toys and playtime are important, but they shouldn’t be Fluffy’s only entertainment options. Set out some things for her to investigate, such as boxes and paper bags.

Beds

Our feline friends are very, very tired. Making sure Fluffy has lots of beds and comfy napping spots is one of the best things you can do for her.

Playtime!

Take a few minutes a day to play with your feline pal. You may be surprised at how much your pet enjoys this. Fluffy may soon come to look forward to her daily play sessions. Afterwards, you may find yourself with a purring furball on your lap.

Clean Litterboxes

Cats are very clean, and they also prefer clean litterboxes. You can’t really blame them. No one likes a dirty bathroom!

Treats!

Do you think your cat doesn’t like treats? Think again! It may take a while for you to find out what Fluffy really likes. Experiment with different things. You may be surprised when you see your kitty clearly enjoying something tasty. Just stick with safe options. Ask your vet for more information.

Veterinary Care

Fluffy may not be happy about going to her appointment, but she’ll definitely benefit from getting proper care. Keep up with her wellness care. If you notice signs of illness, call your vet right away!

Attention

At the end of the day, the best way to keep Fluffy happy is to just pay lots of attention to her. Talk to her, pet her, and pick her up if she likes being held. (Some cats will only tolerate being held for a short time, but that’s another topic.) Kitty snuggles and purrs are both truly precious gifts in our book!

Please do not hesitate to reach out if ever we can be of assistance. As your Anderson, IN veterinary clinic, we are here to help!
